On Sundays, I like to share three things I have enjoyed in the past week. They could be anything; just stuff that has, as Marie Kondo might say, sparked joy. They also don’t have to be new or recent, so long as I’ve enjoyed them this week.

Thing 1: Old Pulteney Releases a Limited Run of 50 Year Old Whisky

I enjoy Whisky. I like the flavour and the slight burn. Most of all, I like the intention. I like the history. When I open a bottle of 12 year old Old Pulteney or 15 year old Dalwhinnie, I’m drinking something that has been created and curated over a substantial amount of time. I respect that.

That’s why Old Pulteney, one of my local distilleries, caught my attention with their recent release:

50 years is unbelievable. These bottlings have come from four casks that the distillery has kept for half a century. Over that time, the angels have taken their share, and a significant amount of spirit will have been lost to evaporation. The investment is not small.

It’s fascinating, and I like that it exists, even if I could never bring myself to actually spend this kind of money on Whisky.

Thing 2: Gwen John Retrospective in Edinburgh

The Modern in Edinburgh is about to hold an exhibition of the work of the Welsh artist, Gwen John, 150 years after her birth.

Thing 3: Stardew Valley MtG Crossover

Stardew Valley is such a fun, cosy, wholesome game. It’s also wickedly addictive. What better way to compound that addiction than to pair it with Magic: The Gathering.

These are just some of the cards. There are more, and they’re all beautiful. I’m not the biggest fan of Wizards of the Coast’s Secret Lair business model. It actively encourages expensive FOMO purchases and facilitates scalpers. That’s okay, though; I’ll just probably end up printing some up for myself.
